Tour Overview

Norfolk Island has a unique beauty, with its renowned tall majestic pines, crystal clear waters, sheer cliff faces, coral reefs and beautiful beaches. Norfolk Island, which lies directly east of Australia and north of New Zealand, is far more than a picturesque island in the South Pacific, it is paradise with a past.

What was once a convict nightmare is now the tranquil home of the descendants of the original Bounty mutineers, their distinctive culture and language are unique. Almost half of the present population can trace their roots to the mutineers including Fletcher Christian. Of the remainder, a third were born on the Australian mainland and about a fifth in New Zealand. A strong blend of Polynesian and European heritage has created a distinctive society characterised by neighbourliness, mutual support and barter.

Almost one third of the island is devoted to National Parks and Reserves. On Norfolk Island, you will not find busy roads, railways, ports or harbours. There are 80 kilometres of laneways across the island and the livestock still have the right of way. Join local experts as they provide keen insight into the past, present and future of this island. After a week, you will appreciate Norfolk Island’s engaging, friendly people and their unique lifestyle on their beautiful island in the South Pacific.

Most of the cities and towns visited on this program can be explored by coach, where walking tours are relatively short and generally on the flat and all hotels have lifts with easily accessible rooms.
All our programs naturally involve some walking in order to discover better the places visited and, although we arrange porterage where this is available, participants are expected to be able to handle their own bags. Our program leaders will always try to make as much of the program as possible available for those who find walking longer distances, uphill or down steps difficult but, in same places, this cannot always be avoided.

If you have any concerns at all about your level of fitness, please do not hesitate to talk to us and discuss further with the experts who know the particular demands of each program.
