Tour Overview

With the generous, warm spirit of Cuba’s people enhancing your journey every step of the way, Cuba is a culturally and geographically rich country with virgin forests hugging rustling tobacco fields, colonial cities centred at the foot of rugged mountains and rivers carving through fertile valleys.

We gain a sense of the past and experience the quickly changing present in the capital city of Havana, the colonial gem of Trinidad, with its beautifully preserved cobblestone streets, the queen of central Cuba, Camaguey, and at the eastern edge of the island is Santiago de Cuba, the second largest city of the island. We explore these historic Spanish colonial cities and smaller towns such as Baracoa, the first settlement founded by the Spanish in America and also Cuba’s first capital. We learn about the Spanish colonial era, the Cuban Revolution and the Cuba of today.

We explore churches, grand plazas, forts, sites of the Cuban Revolution, farms and museums. We learn about the racial composition of Cuba, its Spanish and African heritage. From this blend, singular musical rhythms, dance, art and cuisine have evolved and represent the cultural landscape: Salsa, rumba and mambo rhythms can be heard in the streets of Havana and Santiago de Cuba. Cuban cuisine is a blend of Spanish and Caribbean, with wonderful and flavourful dishes such as, 'arroz con frijoles', 'picadillo', creole style meat dishes and the famed plantains that originated from Africa. We are tempted to try these dishes and more.

Join us on a journey to explore this proud nation, to learn of its complexity, its rich and lush natural landscape, and its vibrant and dynamic culture.

To be advised

This program includes placeswhich can only be explored on foot and where walking tours may be a little longer and not always on the flat. Accommodation may have some stairs and or have some rooms which may involve some walking to access.
All our programs naturally involve some walking in order to discover better the places visited and, although we arrange porterage where this is available, participants are expected to be able to handle their own bags. Our program leaders will always try to make as much of the program as possible available for those who find walking longer distances, uphill or down steps difficult but, in same places, this cannot always be avoided.
If you have any concerns at all about your level of fitness, please do not hesitate to talk to us and discuss further with the experts who know the particular demands of each program.
